GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS AN ASSET TO YOURSELF AND DARTING
Good sportsmanship should be the prevailing attitude during all darting events, whether it is league play, Tournaments or just practicing. It is a responsibility you have to your opponent as well as the establishment in which you are playing. Good sportsmanship encompasses decent behavior and thoughtfulness and in some cases may mean self discipline if needed. It is most unfortunate to observe any conflict in a darting community that has been established for the purpose of friendship and recreation.  When it occurs, it may be interpreted as a reflection upon the entire group. Let’s try to keep our good reputation and further demonstrate our desire to support our sponsors who have allowed us to come into their place to play.
When and if incidents occur, and are serious enough for official enforcement, our Board of Directors are, and will be, available to deal with the problem. Contact a League Advisor (phone numbers listed on your schedule) immediately.
Meanwhile, here are some guidelines for each of us to abide by:
Ø
There should be no attempts to distract an opponent while he/she is throwing. Any form of harassment aimed at the person on the throwing line will not be tolerated. This includes “accidentally” dropping your darts. Whistling, glaring or looking into the thrower’s face. Chatter around the shooting area is quite normal, but DO NOT direct comments or heckle when he/she is at the throwing line.

Ø
All people, except the chalker, should stand back, behind the vision of the thrower.
Ø
Be sure that you and the Chalker agree on your score BEFORE pulling your darts from the board. This avoids misunderstandings and any further discussion.

Ø
If drinking is in your repertoire, then be aware of your own limitations. Mouths as well as darts can become a hazard.
Ø
Limit encouragement and gamesmanship to BEFORE a person steps to the line and AFTER their turn is over. In short, do nothing to break a player’s concentration while they are on the line -- opponents and teammates alike.
Ø
If there is a question on procedure or Rule, team captains should confer and produce an answer. Don’t cause a scene or waste time arguing about it. Call a league advisor if necessary. Resolve the problem on site, if possible, and avoid a protest.

Ø
Sponsors cannot create a great dart atmosphere alone. General courteousness in assisting in the maintenance of the dart area helps to promote the continuation of darts in the establishment.

Remember, “Darts is the sport that begins and ends with a handshake “.
